Dear readers,

The ongoing tensions between the central government in Madrid and the ousted Catalan premier Carles Puigdemont continued to simmer this week, as the latter continued to maneuver to be voted back into his previous role, and the former mounted a legal challenge to try to stop that from happening.

Meanwhile, a diplomatic crisis between Spain and Venezuela deepened on Friday, as the Spanish government expelled the country's ambassador in Madrid in response to a similar move by Caracas.

And finally, one of our most-read stories of the week explained just how a Spanish public employee had managed to work just 18 months in 15 years and not lose his job...

Thanks for reading the English Edition of EL PAÍS. We hope you enjoy this selection of articles.
