| Dear readers, It has been a big news week. On Thursday, a court handed down its highly anticipated verdict in the gang rape case known as La Manada. In a controversial ruling, the three judges sentenced the five defendants to nine years for sexual abuse – not rape – arguing that the 18-year-old victim was not subjected to intimidation or violence. The decision has outraged the public and led to mass protests across the country. Earlier in the week, Madrid's regional premier Cristina Cifuentes finally announced her resignation after a security video of her shoplifting two pots of face cream emerged. The scandal came on the back of accusations she had fraudulently obtained a master's degree, and only served to increase the numerous calls for her to step down. And finally, the city of Palma on the Balearic Island of Mallorca will be banning homeowners from renting out their apartments to tourists from July in an effort to tackle skyrocketing rents.
