Dear readers,

Catalonia dominated the headlines once again this week, with the yellow ribbons and other symbols that have been placed in the streets of the region proving to be a point of conflict.

An organized group of 80 people appeared in one town in the early hours of the morning to remove the symbols, which express support for the pro-independence leaders currently in jail awaiting trial. Two leaders from center-right group Ciudadanos also got in on the act, removing ribbons in front of the press.

A demonstration the same day descended into violence, however, when a cameraman was attacked by members of the public in what turned out to be a case of mistaken identity.

Away from Catalonia, immigration continued to hog the headlines, with a video surfacing of a migrant boat arriving on a bustling tourist beach, and also the news that hundreds of undocumented migrants are stuck in the north of Spain, trying to get into France.

We hope you enjoy this selection of articles from the EL PAÍS English Edition. Thanks for reading.
