Dear readers,

The murder of schoolteacher Laura Luelmo sent shock waves across Spain this week. The 26-year-old was killed by her neighbor Bernardo Montoya, who confessed to the crime, after she asked him for directions to the supermarket.

Meanwhile, Barcelona was again the site of pro-independence protesters on Friday.  Mass demonstrators took place across the Catalan capital in protest of the central government's Cabinet meeting in the city, which they argued was a "provocation."

And in other news, Spanish doctors have come up with an innovative way to reduce stress in young patients – remote control cars.

We hope you enjoy this selection of articles from the EL PAÍS English Edition. Thanks for reading.
