Dear readers,

This weekend will see the clocks go back an hour in Spain, and one of our most-read stories was about whether this might be the last time they do so, given that the European Union is planning to do away with the twice-yearly times change across the continent.

Meanwhile, details emerged about alleged bribes paid by a Spanish company involved in arms deals with Saudi Arabia, as the fallout from the murder of journalist Jamal Khashoggi continued.

Former IMF chief Rodrigo Rato entered jail this week, to serve a prison sentence over his role in a credit card scandal, and the leaders of the Catalan independence drive found out this week that they will be facing trial in the Supreme Court, most likely at the start of next year.

We hope you enjoy this selection of articles from the EL PAÍS English Edition. Thanks for reading.
