Dear readers,

Catalonia is again in the headlines after Spain's public prosecution announced that it was seeking a 25-year prison sentence for Oriol Junqueras. The former regional deputy is one of 18 independence leaders facing charges for their role in the unauthorized referendum of October 1, 2017 and the unilateral independence declaration that followed.

Meanwhile in Spain, the dispute over the exhumation of Francisco Franco continues to intensify with the Franco family promising legal action if the government decides to act unilaterally.

And in other news, EL PAÍS has collected testimony from abuse victims of the Spanish Catholic Church in a special series exposing decades of offenses by the clergy.

We hope you enjoy this selection of articles from the EL PAÍS English Edition. Thanks for reading.
